Ove - 夢ニ眠ル扉 (1998)

(Ove - Yume NI NemuRU Tobira)

Genre: Alt Rock
Released: April 25th, 1998
Region: Osaka, Japan
Label: POUSY & ABLE
Catalog #: PAO-001
Format: CD
Bitrate: 320kbps

tracklist
01. 赤い靴
02. さくら
03. 月の沙漠
04. 砂の城
05. 扉を開けて

This band's most known for being the previous band of はるひ, who was ドレミ團's guitarist and lead songwriter from their first year of activity. The sound is kinda 90's-ROUAGE-ish visual kei rock, and would probably fit quite well among some bands from the Key Party label.

Japan - Ghosts (1982)

Genre: New Wave/Synth Pop
Released: March, 1982
Region: South London, England
Label: Virgin Records
Catalog #: VS47-212
Format: 12" single
Bitrate: 320 kbps

tracklist
A. Ghosts
B. The Art of Parties (Version)

I'm pushing my own boundaries for this blog by posting this, as I promised I'd only post UNDERRATED music here and Japan and David Sylvian are well loved the world over, but I figured I had to post something in memory of Mick Karn, so here's the much acclaimed Ghosts single, 12" version.

The b-side is a different version of The Art of Parties from the one on Tin Drum(just named "(Version)" here, later named "(Single Version).")

Bought it online from a vinyl dealer.

安全地帯 - 安全地帯II (1984)

(Anzenchitai - Anzenchitai II)

Released: May 1st, 1984
Region: Hokkaido, Japan
Label: Kitty Records

Format: 12" LP
Bitrate: 320 kbps

A4. マスカレード
A5. あなたに

B1. ・・・ふたり・・・
B2. 真夏のマリア
B3. つり下がったハート
B4. ダンサー
B5. La-La-La

There really isn't enough I can say about this album or 安全地帯 in general. They definitely aren't underrated in their native land - founder and lead vocalist/guitarist/songwriter of the band 玉置浩二 has an active and successful solo career even - but I'm 100% certain they're WAY underrated everywhere else(especially here in the States.)

They're easily one of the best pop rock groups to ever come out of Japan in the 1980's, and they pretty much helped define that era, much like Duran Duran did in the west. The stuff they released pre-1990 was their best in all, IMO.

This is their second full album and is considered their best due to its singles, with which I'd agree if I didn't love their debut so much as well. I recommend this album to anyone who likes catchy hooks and memorable guitar-centric pop songs that OOZE 80's charm.

04. addicted imitation
05. beauty-BEAST-
06. wind whisper

Velze Dieulawahl were a visual kei band from Hiroshima that formed in early 2000 and never really took off. The music style is a bit like darker glam-ish metal, sort of the usual dark visual rock band but with memorable songwriting.

Kar'MariA - Reset (2001)

Genre: Alt Rock/Punk?
Released: May 30th, 2001
Region: Tokyo, Japan
Label: Eternal
Catalog #: ETR-003
Format: CD
Bitrate: 320kbps

tracklist
01. Deep Love
02. Happy Chain
03. a habit
04. I than Reset you
05. 約束

Arguably the best, if not second best, band that the infamous(now retired) and underrated indie visual kei vocalist/songwriter 優雅(Yuuga) was ever in. It features the same manic, angry energy that came full-force in his last band DEViL KiTTY but in a less grungey, quirky punk sort of way and moreso in the heavy visual kei rock sense. Sort of a transitional sound between Chateau La tour and DK.

Seriously underrated visual kei band that didn't sound quite like anybody else, then or now. Alternative rock + vk-y guitar solos and a quirky, manic charm. Aside from two demos, these are their only two official releases. They barely lasted 3 years as a band.

Excellent and underrated Matina act from Nagoya. The music is less metal and darker than most Matina bands(as per Nagoya kei usual,) but still lots of heavy fast-tempo songs. Some punk elements too, maybe. Highly recommended if you like this kind of stuff.

Mini-album(EP?) by visual kei band Three Eyes Jack, featuring two members from OBLIVION DUST(マサル and RIKIJI) from back in 1992. The music isn't too stand-out for a visual band of its time but it has collector value.

A2. Shorty
B1. Fuzz Pop

GO-q ROCK 03 tracklist
A1. NEO G
A2. MONOPOLY FAN
B1. 十月の朝

YOGURT-pooh was a highly underrated pop rock band from Japan's early milennium with loads of great songs and potential. They sound much like a Japanese version of Weezer. These are three pre-major label YOGURT-pooh demotapes. Many of the tracks on these tapes ended up on their later albums, improved and refined.

Keep in mind that these tapes had been played to hell and back before I bought'em so the audio(aside from the already lo-fi recording) is not in the best shape and there's varying levels of distortion on the rips. This is mostly just for big fans of the band and completionists like myself.

B9. 人情一枚
B10. 涙を抱いた渡り鳥

Best-of album by 60's/70's enka singer "Kiyoko Suizenji," who was best known for her raspy, playful voice. Standard fare upbeat enka for the most part, quite catchy.

Bought it at a local music store.

ザ・タイガース - THE TIGERS 1982

B6. 朝焼けのカンタータ

This is the (supposedly)final album of Japan's most highly lauded "Group Sounds" band("Group Sounds" being Japan's name for Beatles-esque bands with kind of a japanesey flavor.)

This isn't somethin' I'm usually into, but I bought it on a whim because it was cheap, and I ripped it because I can't find it anywhere else on the net and I figured SOMEONE's gotta want it. Catchy stuff.

Bought it from a local music store.

Syndrome - SEXUAL (2000)

Genre: Glam Metal/Goth Rock
Released: March 15th, 2000
Region: Osaka, Japan
Label: Matina
Catalog #: MMT-017
Format: Cassette
Bitrate: 320 kbps

tracklist
A. SEXUAL
B. deep sky

This is an early demo by one of Matina's greatest 'flagship' bands, and one of KISAKI's best, when they had their first vocalist 龍夜. Sounds exactly like you'd expect from this kind of band, but done very well.

Bought it off a visual kei merch trader.
